STOA Architects partnered with Rice University to create a new research lab in the unused storage/attic area of Room 310. Working alongside esteemed stakeholders, including the Baker Institute Director, Ambassador Edward P. Djerejian, and the Rice University design team, STOA developed program concepts that optimized the space while adhering to the aesthetic requirements of Baker Hall. The primary focus was maximizing spatial efficiency and creating furniture layouts that complement the existing architectural elements while incorporating refined finishes. Given that the existing space lacked external windows, special attention was given to the rear wall as a focal point of the design. Innovative LED lighting solutions were implemented, specifically, details about the type of LED lights, their placement, and their impact on the space, transforming the entire wall into a captivating feature. The client’s preferred color, ‘CELEDON,’ infused the space with a distinct character, creating a harmonious atmosphere.
