At the epicenter of the Cypress Creek Cultural District, the George H.W. Bush community center is a hub for over 1.4 million residents and civic organizations. In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, STOA Architects undertook a significant renovation project to restore this vital space.

The modern makeover included a two-phase renovation for this 24,500-square-foot center. Phase I consisted of the renovation of the 1980s-era facilities façade. Phase II included reconfiguring and enhancing the interior for better circulation to the lobby, administrative spaces, and aerobics/dance facility updates to the mechanical systems and enhanced finishes. The renovation, a testament to our collective efforts, included updating the facade, reconfiguring the interior for better circulation, and enhancing the mechanical systems and finishes.

STOA Architects carefully chose materials that harmonize with the nearby Barbara Bush Branch Library, ensuring a contemporary aesthetic that will stand the test of time. The site was further enhanced with accessible walking paths, benches, landscaping, and a new memorial dedicated to President George H.W. Bush. This renovation, a true testament to our collective efforts, has transformed the center into a more welcoming and functional space, instilling a sense of pride in the community.
