George H.W. Bush Community Center

STOA International Architects, Inc. / George H.W. Bush Community Center

George H.W. Bush Community Center

Located in Cypress Creek Cultural District, this community center serves over 1.4 million residents and civic organizations. STOA  revitalized the center, adding accessible paths and landscaping to enhance the neighborhood. The renovation was completed in two phases for the 24,500-square-foot facility.

Phase I focused on the center’s façade, which had its roots in the 1960s era. To ensure a harmonious connection to the neighborhood’s nearby Barbara Bush Branch Library, STOA carefully selected materials that would complement the area while exuding a contemporary aesthetic that stands the test of time. The goal was to create a design that feels fresh and relevant, even years down the line.

In Phase II, the interior was reconfigured to improve circulation in key areas such as the lobby, administrative, and aerobics/dance spaces. The mechanical systems were also updated to ensure optimal functionality, while the finishes received a modern touch. The result is an interior space that fosters seamless movement and provides an inviting atmosphere for all visitors.
