The Houston Independent School District Baylor College of Medicine Biotech Academy at Rusk involved the complete renovation of the School Office Administration area, including renovation of public restrooms to meet ADA compliance, new floor finishes in each classroom, new acoustical ceilings, and window/door replacements.
The new addition consisted of a central plant and a two-story building that included 21,000-square-feet of classrooms, computer labs, science labs, and a 3,000-square-feet multi-purpose space. A new covered canopy design was implemented to connect both school buildings by integrating existing school circulation patterns. STOA designed landscape walls to match the new addition and selected brick color and texture to match the existing structure with accent brick and pattern materials introduced to give the addition a complementary but distinct look. Site improvements were achieved by additional parking and play areas and updates to the school’s infrastructure.
